Travel to Jodhpur (Rajasthan)
- Sights in Jodhpur (Rajasthan) : Jodhpur is a big busy Indian town, the exterior of the fort is almost identical to the fort of Jaisalmer, but the interior is a lot more beautiful and not anymore inhabited (now a museum). The view from the fort of the blue houses that Jodhpur is know for is excellent. Next to the fort is a walk through the indigo-blue part of Jodhpur that is also very beautiful (amongst others the film Octopussy was filmed here.)

Ranakpur sights : Ranakpur has a very nice Jain temple with sculptured pillars. It takes about half an hour to visit the temple so staying here for the night is not really necessary. If you still want to stay there are possibilities to sleep in the very basic temple corners, a kind of ultra cheap solution where you pay 10 rupees for renting a blanket and 20 rupees for a tasty portion of thai food. The temple of Ranakpur closes at 17:00 so if you want to have time to visit it and go on you should the latest catch the bus at 7.30 to go there. -
Restaurants in Jodhpur : Kalinga restaurant opposite the train station of Jodhpur has very tasty food, in a family atmosphere.

Exchanging money in Jodhpur : it is very difficult to exchange money in Jodhpur, there are no exchange offices and no cash points. Jodhpur has a few old fashioned bureaucratic Indian banks.

Budget hotels and cheap accommodation in Jodhpur : Hotel Govind, next to the train station has small rooms for 200 rupees per double room. Perhaps try one of the new guest rooms and budget hotels in the old blue town that will be offered to you as soon as you get of the bus or train.

Traveling by public transport from Jodhpur to Ranakpur and Udaipur : the busses leave at 5.30, 7.30 and 11.45 from Jodhpur. the trip to Ranakpur takes 5 hours. next to the temple of Ranakpur (closes at 17:00u) passes a bus at 18:30 and 19:30 to Udaipur (3.5 hours trip).
